2. Wiper Arms & Washer System

What it does: Wiper arms clear rain and grime from the windscreen; the washer bottle stores screenwash and pumps it through the jets.

Why it fails in the UK & Europe:

· High annual rainfall plus winter road salt corrodes wiper-arm pivots and washer motors; UV and temperature cycling crack the rubber. (Deteriorated wiper blades account for 6.27% of all MOT failures.)

· Washer bottles split if the wrong or no antifreeze is used in winter, or the pump fails (washer faults: 3.46% of MOT failures).

3. Shock Absorbers & Control Arms (Suspension)

What it does: Shock absorbers absorb road impact and keep the tyre planted — directly affecting braking distance and handling. Control arms locate the wheel and set alignment; their bushes and ball joints define ride quality and tyre wear.

Why it fails in the UK & Europe:

· The UK is notorious for potholes, especially on rural and northern roads; winter salt accelerates bush corrosion. Suspension is 20.9% of MOT failures, and worn bushes/ball joints alone are 7.77%.

· Pothole strikes blow shocks (oil leaks, loss of damping); bushes crack and develop play; worn ball joints fail the test outright.

4. Accessory Belt (1.6T Petrol Only)

What it does: Drives the alternator, water pump and power-steering pump. If it snaps, the car loses charging and cooling and will quickly break down.

Why it fails in the UK & Europe:

· Rubber ages and cracks under engine-bay heat and temperature cycling — a classic 50,000–80,000 km wear item.

· A failed tensioner causes slip and noise and accelerates belt wear; a snapped belt is a roadside recovery, not a quick fix.

· Spring pollen and city stop-start traffic dirty the filter fast; a neglected filter raises intake resistance, fuel use and drops power.

· It is a routine service item (every 10,000–20,000 km) and a steady repeat order for any workshop.

6. ADAS Radar & Camera (Calibration Required)

What it does: The front millimetre-wave radar and forward camera give the J7 its adaptive cruise, autonomous emergency braking and lane-keeping — the core of its active safety.

Why it fails in the UK & Europe:

· Even a low-speed bumper nudge can shift or damage the radar/camera.
