A European workshop searching for BYD Seal U parts will quickly encounter another name: BYD Song Plus.
That is not a coincidence.
The European Seal U belongs to the same SA3 vehicle family as the Chinese-market Song Plus, and many replacement parts continue to use SA3-series OE references.
However, one of the most common sourcing mistakes is turning that relationship into a much broader assumption:
"If it fits a Song Plus, it fits every Seal U."
That is not a safe rule.
The better way to understand the relationship is:
Seal U and Song Plus are closely related catalogue families, but individual part fitment must still be checked by OE number and vehicle specification.
BYD has used different names for closely related models across export markets.
For European buyers, Seal U is the familiar name.
In China, workshops and suppliers are more likely to know the vehicle as Song Plus.
In other global markets, related export naming can also include Sealion 6.
For a Chinese parts supplier, the term SA3 is often more useful than any of these marketing names because it appears throughout the OE numbering system.
That is why searching both:
BYD Seal U parts
and:
BYD Song Plus SA3 parts
can produce useful results.
No.
The SA3 family is an important starting point, but the same vehicle family has been produced with multiple:
powertrains;
model years;
facelifts;
production revisions;
destination-market specifications.
A good example is the suspension.
Song Plus EV catalogues commonly show:
SA3EB-2905100 / SA3EB-2905200
for front shock absorbers.
DM-i catalogues also show:
SA3HA-2905100 / SA3HA-2905200
for comparable positions.

The parts may look extremely similar online, but the different OE family is a reason to check rather than guess.
The greatest differences are naturally found around the powertrain and supporting systems.
Extra care should be taken with:
engine-related components;
hybrid-system components;
cooling circuits;
AC / thermal-management components;
high-voltage components;
charging-related components;
drivetrain parts.
But the distinction can also appear in unexpected areas.
Shock absorbers and headlights, for example, can carry different OE suffixes between EV and DM-i versions.
Therefore, a body or chassis part should not automatically be classified as "shared" simply because it is not part of the engine.
There are also examples where the same reference appears across multiple versions.
Front control arms such as:
SA3F-2904010A
SA3F-2904020A
are listed by public parts databases for both Song Plus EV and Song Plus DM-i applications.
byd-seal-u-control-arm-sa3f-2904010a
Some body panels also cross markets.
Current UK Seal U DM-i listings use Song Plus-style references including:
Front left door shell — SA3F-6101010/70
Front right door shell — SA3F-6101019/70
byd-seal-u-front-door-sa3f-6101010-70
This is why the correct conclusion is not "nothing interchanges".
The correct conclusion is:
Interchangeability is part-specific.
Lighting is one of the clearest examples.
Older Song Plus catalogue references include:
SA3F-4121010B
SA3F-4121020B
byd-seal-u-headlight-sa3f-4121010b
Public fitment information commonly associates these B-suffix versions with EV applications.
DM-i catalogues also contain C and E suffixes, while current UK Seal U DM-i listings show later SA3HK references.
The first part of the number may look almost identical, but that suffix or prefix change can represent a meaningful revision.
Never remove the suffix when sending an OE enquiry.
SA3F-4121010
and:
SA3F-4121010B
should not automatically be treated as the same reference.
This is particularly important for European sourcing.
Most continental-European Seal U vehicles are LHD.
The UK and Ireland use RHD.
Some exterior body panels may be unaffected by steering position, but other components can differ.
Pay additional attention to:
headlights;
steering gear;
dashboard components;
pedal assemblies;
wiring;
interior trim;
mirrors with market-specific electronics.
For a British Seal U, simply finding a part that fits a Chinese LHD Song Plus is not sufficient evidence.
For professional procurement, use as many identifiers as possible.
The ideal enquiry includes:
VIN
Complete OE number
Original-part label
Product photo
Connector / mounting-point photo
EV or DM-i
LHD or RHD
Left/right and front/rear position
Destination country
When the OE number is unknown, VIN and photos can often provide enough information to begin the catalogue check.
Hella Auto's current online catalogue includes many Song Plus / Seal U references, but it is not intended to represent every part available through our sourcing network.
If the correct European Seal U OE is different from the Song Plus part currently shown online, send us the vehicle information.
We can check alternative references for:
DM-i;
EV;
LHD;
RHD;
later production revisions.
The goal is not to force an existing website product onto the enquiry.
The goal is to identify the correct part.
They belong to the same vehicle family and share many components and SA3 references, but individual part compatibility still needs to be confirmed.
Yes. Song Plus references are often useful for locating the correct part family. Final fitment should then be checked against the Seal U VIN and specification.
Some are shared, while others are revised between versions. Do not assume interchangeability purely because the component is a body part.
This should not be assumed. Headlamp specification and beam pattern can be market-specific.
Send us the OE, VIN and product photo. We can check other available sourcing references.
Send us the VIN + full OE number + original-part photo. We can check EV / DM-i and LHD / RHD specification before quotation.
